roast bird

So i was buying stuff at costco today and i decided to pick up a couple whole chickens to roast. It's been a long, long time since i roasted a whole chicken. Usually i just roast drumsticks or thighs, because i prefer dark meat, and it's much quicker to bake or grill pieces than a whole chicken. I followed Julia Child's method for roasting a chicken (including massaging the chicken with a lot of butter). Unfortunately it had been so long since i had roasted a chicken that i made some err...mistakes.

In a daze, i managed to confuse which side was the breast side of the chicken. So, during the times i should have been cooking the chicken breast up, it was breast down. and vice versa. So the breast turned out with less crispy skin than it should have, and was a bit dry. Sigh. There's one more chicken...i'll get it right on the next one.

I feel like such a fool.

My favorite wine and some garlic bread made up for the somewhat faulty roast bird. And i have some great chicken stock made from the yummy giblets.

mmm, breast. mmm, leg.
